Purpose
The foundation seeks to strengthen and stabilize leadership presenting institutions so they are better equipped to serve performing artists over the long term.
Grant Details
The foundation awards multi-year grants to leadership presenting institutions that have two components:
- Artistic programming support, which enables the presenter to directly support individual artists during the grant period through commissions, performances, master classes, residencies, lectures, community-based projects, mentoring and scholarships, as well as through rehearsal and theater space, and production and marketing support; and
- Endowment support, which must be matched by the presenter during the grant period and is restricted to artistic programming to create a reliable source of revenue for individual artists beyond the grant period.
To date, the foundation has awarded grants to 17 leadership presenting institutions totaling $34.226 million.
Criteria
Generally, leadership presenting institutions attract audiences and artists at the national and international levels and have average performing arts budgets of more than $3 million. Candidates demonstrate geographic and programmatic diversity, enable artists to create work and explore new arenas, and have the capacity to raise the required endowment match.
Process
For grants that have been awarded to date, the foundation identified outstanding leadership presenting institutions and invited them to apply.
