Build Repertoire of Prevention Strategies
Funded in part by DDCF, the Centers for Disease Control’s Public Health Leadership Initiative will investigate and promote public health strategies that help prevent child maltreatment. An article co-authored by Francie Zimmerman of DDCF and James Mercy of the CDC on developing a public health approach to the prevention of child abuse and neglect appeared in the May 2010 edition of the Zero to Three Journal.

Zero to Three's State Partnerships for Prevention Project trains state-based trainers in the use of the Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect: Parent-Provider Partnership curriculum, which is designed to assist child care providers in supporting families and helping them reduce the risk of child maltreatment. The Urban Institute released the findings of a DDCF-funded study that examines maternal depression and identifys service strategies to help connect depressed mothers with treatment:
Funded in part by DDCF, the Future of Children journal’s Fall 2009 edition, Preventing Child Maltreatment, contains articles on topics associated with the prevention of child abuse and neglect, including the importance of prevention, characteristics of families at-risk of maltreatment, types of interventions, community-wide initiatives, and the role of the child welfare system in prevention:
