University of Pittsburgh Coursework

The Doris Duke Fellows at the University of Pittsburgh are required to complete two longitudinal seminars:

Required seminars:

  • CLRES 2073: Introduction to Clinical and Translational Research; Offered once per month September 2011-May 2012.
  • CLRES 2075: Seminar for Understanding Principles and Practices of Research Techniques (SUPPORT); Offered three times per month September - May.

Additionally, fellows complete core coursework towards either a graduate certificate in clinical research or a master of science (MS) in clinical research.

Required courses for certificate and MS in clinical research:

  • CLRES 2005: Computer Methods in Clinical Research; 1 credit
  • CLRES 2010: Clinical Research Methods; 3 credits
  • CLRES 2020: Biostatistics-Statistical Approaches in Clinical Research; 4 credits
  • CLRES 2040: Measurement in Clinical Research; 1 credit
  • CLRES 2050: Ethics and Regulation in Clinical Research; 1 credit
  • MEDEDU 2140: Medical Writing and Presentation Skills; 1 credit

Additional requirements for the 15-credit certificate:

  • Elective Courses; 4 credits

Additional requirements for the 30-credit MS:

Fellows pursuing the MS choose a specialty track and to complete the track-specific requirements and to choose among approved electives.

Track options for Master of Science in Clinical Research:

  • Clinical Trials Research Track; 7 required credits
  • Health Services Research Track; 10 required credits
  • Translational Research Track; 8 required credits
  • Comparative Effectiveness Research Track; 11 required credits
  • The balance of credits come from selected elective courses
